The Morgan-Gurr's Spring Update 2025
It's been a while since we last updated - late autumn 2024.
It's been a busy time with bookings, conferences, meetings, writing and more...much like normal.
Pondering Platypus Resources Has Moved!
Part of the work we've done this year is combine two websites into one - both for financial reasons and trying to streamline things into once place, thus also reducing what we have on social media. The social media is proving harder to sort than the website merge, as people are not seeing the various pleas on the resources page to follow the training and consultancy site instead!
All the lovely resources are now on 'The Pondering Platypus.com' and can be found in the menu under the Pondering Platypus Resources header. There are now new sections up and running and place holders ready to receive new ideas. (written, but not had time to get them on the page - more of why that is coming later!)
Towards the beginning of March we had a short break in our favourite place - Walcott in Norfolk. We enjoyed the occasional cooked breakfast, the occasional cuppa whilst out and about....and cakes may have been present too!
The first two days were like Spring had arrived and we managed to sit outside with an afternoon cuppa, but the temperature then dropped and the wind got up, meaning we could enjoy the sound of an angry sea - which we both like.
We needed the break, especially to refresh us ready for what was to come.
We came back to an already full diary, and then the Green Paper about disability benefits landed.
Because Kay needs to keep abreast of these things - both for work and the fact we also need to know how they will affect us, there began a black hole of reading up, talking to other disability organisations, being asked to write about it, make comment about it and support others who were understandably scared about the suggestions - some of them at the point of suicide (Yes, the suggestions ARE that bad). Kay said to a few people that it was a week she didn't want to repeat...then the spring statement came out.
Because it's connected to the green paper in many ways, it made the black hole even deeper - and even more requests to write and comment came in.

Hopefully you'll see what disabled people are currently dealing with.
Therefore - it's been a tough couple of weeks. It's very easy to let worry creep in - in fact it's only natural. So do pray for us and for justice to prevail.
MPs are beginning to 'revolt' about all the changes - about 80 of them currently, and many papers are beginning to catch on too - so there is a little glimmer of hope in there for the government to reconsider.
Spring Harvest - The Ending of a Long Chapter.
This year will be our final year at Spring Harvest with Kay stepping down as their advisor and onsite disability consultant. After so many years working with them (volunteering, leading Whizz Kids as well as advising), next year will feel quite strange!! SH have hinted numerous times that they will be doing an 'appropriate thankyou', but we have no idea what. Considering neither of us likes surprises - especially Kay, we are wondering what they have planned!
We then have a list of bookings taking us up to the summer holidays, when we will be at the Keswick Convention for its entirety again!
One of our joys is receiving encouraging correspondence. The 'New Life' group in our church take it in turns to write a postcard to us - which is so precious.
We know people are praying, but it means so much when people tell us and ask about what we're doing. So, please do keep in touch - just knowing you're there for us is good for the soul.
