A Simple Christmas

Kay Morgan-Gurr • 24 December 2023

A simple Christmas and a simple faith.

A colourful but simple nativity scene. Just Mary, Joseph and then Jesus in a manger. The scene is backed with a large colourful star.

I've always been blessed with a simple faith.

I answered Jesus' call to follow Him as a child and have never regretted it.

I've had moments of asking God "why?" about many things - usually at full volume in the shower! But I've never doubted His presence or His love.

He is the catalyst for what I do in my life.

He is my compass, my comfort and my confidence.

Through the tough times - and there have been many, I have been aware of Him being close, even if I haven't wanted to talk to Him because I didn't understand 'why'. It's a comfortable silence, like a dad who knows His daughter well and just sits with her in the grief, not trying to explain, but being a comfort by His very presence.

This morning (Christmas Eve) I felt challenged to say something about my simple faith on social media. My faith is known by way of my ministry, but I rarely give voice to my own faith and belief.

Here's what I wrote:

"Christmas is special for me - I like to keep it simple, much like my faith.
Summarised, it is all about Jesus:

From crib to cross.
From gift to sacrifice.
From death to forgiveness.
From separation to full acceptance.

He is the reason I do what I do, and the only reason this introvert can do it."

Some of my favourite Christian songs at the moment talk about remembering God's faithfulness in the past.

If I keep in mind His faithfulness in the past - in the good times and the bad, then I remember I can trust Him with my future and know my trust is not misplaced.
